Range
The NRA Range is located in the lower level of the NRA
Headquarters tower. It is open to the public and welcomes more than
60,000 visitors annually.
A recent renovation has seen several enhancements and upgrades
made to the range. Some of these new state-of-the-art features
include:
Touch-Screen Target Retrieval The NRA
Range is the first to utilize this cutting-edge technology that was
specially designed by Eddy Esworthy, the president of TargetWorx.
Esworthy is not only a renowned design engineer, he's a former USA
Shooting Team member. Esworthy spent years perfecting this system,
which features a touch-screen user interface and ½-inch accuracy
out to any distance.
Sophisticated Air Filtration System This
advanced system uses three-tier filtration and the medical grade
HEPA filters that are commonly used in operating rooms. The result
is that the air goes back into the environment cleaner than it was
brought it in. The technology not only meets, but exceeds, all
OSHA, NIOSH and EPA standards - ensuring the NRA Range is a clean,
safe place to shoot.
Hard Ceramic Flooring Studies
have shown that the harder the floor surface is, the more shallow
the angle of ricochets when a round impacts the floor. The
resurface at the NRA Range has a 17,000 psi rating - which is a
much harder surface than the standard 3000 psi concrete floors
found in most ranges. This renovation, like the others, provides
for a safer range environment.
The NRA HQ Range is open six days a week. All first-time users
will be required to complete a safety questionnaire and to complete
a written test prior to shooting. This is an educational exercise,
not a graded test. There is a one-time $10 processing fee for the
test.
